Ginsenoside Rb1 prevents MPTP-induced changes in hippocampal memory via regulation of the α-synuclein/PSD-95 pathway

class="figure-viewer-img"

Figure 3. Rb1 increases α-synuclein expression in the hippocampus in the MPTP-treated mice. (A) Immunohistochemical staining of α-synuclein in the CA3 region. Note that MPTP induced the decrease of α-synuclein, which separated by the black dotted box. Scale bar, 50 μm. (B) Oligomeric and monomeric α-synuclein was extracted as stated in Material and Methods and examined by Western blotting. (C and D) Double staining of α-synuclein with PSD-95 (C) or synapsin (D). Scale bar, 10 μm in (C) and 60 μm in (D). n = 7 per group. Western blotting results are from two of the six mice in each group and are expressed as the mean ± SEM of three experiments. **p < 0.01, *p < 0.05 vs. control group; ##p < 0.01, #p < 0.05 vs. MPTP group. Statistical significance was determined by one-way ANOVA and Bonferroni tests as post hoc comparisons.
