Caloric restriction alleviates aging-related fibrosis of kidney through downregulation of miR-21 in extracellular vesicles

Figure 9. Suggested molecular mechanisms underlying caloric restriction-mediated the prevention of aging-related renal fibrosis. The overexpression of miR-21 in EVs could result in downregulation of PPARα, and then promoted activation of HIF-1α inducing tubular phenotype transition in aged kidney. Caloric restriction may prevent the above-mentioned process.
