Hsp22 pretreatment protects against LPS-induced hippocampal injury by alleviating neuroinflammation and apoptosis by regulating the NLRP3/Caspase1/IL-1β signaling pathway in mice

Figure 9. Schematic depicting the potential mechanism of action of the NLRP3/caspase-1/IL-1β axis in LPS-induced hippocampal neuroinflammation and cognition. LPS upregulates the expression of Hsp22, which then activates the NLRP3 inflammasome leading to activation of caspase-1, which cleaves pro-IL-1β to IL-1β. As a result, hippocampal neuroinflammation levels are elevated and induce cognitive impairment.
